Late last week, President Trump said that he was putting the decision to import elephant ivory on halt. This was seen by many people including experts as a way of saving Zimbabwean elephants that had been subjected to trophy hunting for long. At the same time, his actions were praised by politicians from all spectrums. A new question has arisen where people want to know why Donald Trump intervened in the unlikely of circumstances. At the moment, this decision is regarded to as the most curious actions of his first year as president. He even referred elephant killing as a horror show. This is something that even Tanya Sanerib could not understand. For starters, Ms. Sanerib happens to work with Center for Biological Diversity as the senior attorney. She said that she suspected that the issue surrounding elephants is an issue that crosses party lines. As a result, it’s something that’s personal to people. However, Donald Trump’s aides said that there was nothing big about the decision. They even joked that the president loves elephants. They further said that the president had no idea that his government had lifted the ban on elephant trophies. He only got to learn about the decision on news media where he was criticized for the decision. They revealed that the president was annoyed about the decision and that’s why he decided to lift the ban.
At the same time, the president did this by expressing his thoughts on Twitter. However, this is a decision that happened to coincide with some criticisms by close friends of Mr. Trump. These are conservative media personalities that have defended the president through thick and thin this year. They were not happy about the decision by the administration to lift the ban. They include Mike Cernovich, Laura Ingraham and Michael Savage. As for Ms. Ingraham, she said that the decision was absurd. For starters, Ms. Ingraham works with the Fox News as the host. She questioned why people could consider killing the majestic elephants. This is a woman who has referred to herself as a conservationist in the past. She has even travelled to the African country of Botswana with her children to show support for elephants. The ban has been there for the last three years after it was imposed by the Obama administration. The administration targeted two nations that were Zambia and Zimbabwe. A total ban was effected two years later.
