Josh Duggar Child Pornography Trial to commence from July

Ryann Lenett

Josh Duggar, 33, is charged for receiving and possessing child pornography, as per the press release statement from the US attorney’s office. The TV personality would face 20 years of punishment in prison and a penalty of $250,000 for each count if found guilty.

Duggar pleaded not guilty to two charges against him for child pornography. His attorney stated that they would legally fight for his justice. He was arrested on the 29th of April and was held at the Arkansas detention center. The two charges are – receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Duggar is currently held without bond but he had the chance to request his release during the hearing on May 5. During the hearing, prosecutors claimed that the forensic tests of Duggar’s devices including his Macbook and an HP computer that contained an iPhone8’s backup found several files of child pornography were downloaded.

“I will also advise you that any proposed third-party custodian, it would need to be in a residence, where there are no minors in the home. So, you all would need to be looking for somebody that will ensure compliance with conditions of release and can ensure to the court that there are no minors in the home, or that would be visiting unsupervised,” the judge told Duggar and his attorney on the 30th of April.

While the trial would commence from the 6th of July, pretrial proceedings would begin from the 1st of July.

“We appreciate your continued prayers for our family at this time,” said Jim Bob and Michelle on the 30th of April during their family rep. They claimed that the accusations on Duggar are quite serious and hoped that truth would be revealed no matter what, and the matter resolves with time. They added that they love Duggar and Anna, and continue their prayers for the family.

Jill Duggar, Duggar’s sister, and her husband Derick Dillard are not on good terms with the family. They released a statement saying that they just heard about the incident and it is disappointing.

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo released a statement on Instagram saying that they are disturbed by the news. They added that though the case would go as per the legal proceedings, they condemn any kind of child abuse. They continued saying that they would cooperate with the authorities during the judicial proceedings in their journey to justice.

Post the virtual hearing held on the 5th of May, Duggar was granted a release of bond on a condition that Duggar cannot return home, as six minor children are living in his home, said the Judge. The other conditions were – Duggar can have unlimited contact with his children until his wife is around with them, he cannot be with any other children.

Duggar would be constantly monitored through a GPS tracker whenever he moves out of the confinement home at pastor Lacount Reber and Maria Reber’s house, the place he will be staying for now. The judge allowed him to go to church, attend legal appointments, and receive medical help if necessary.
