The Apple Maps app now stands updated. It has received a rather relevant update considering the pandemic that is not showing signs of slowing down globally. In light of COVID-19, the Apple maps would now be showing health measure information for Airports that are searched through the App.
A press release was shared by The Airports Council International (ACI)
“The recovery of air travel will rely on passenger confidence in the industry’s focus on their health and welfare. Having this information displayed in Apple Maps will help to make this crucial data much more broadly accessible to passengers. This will help passengers to plan their journeys and be reassured that their health and safety remain a priority for the industry as we all work towards a sustained return to operations and global connectivity. Collaboration remains key to a globally coordinated recovery and we are grateful to our members for the partnership we have forged to deliver this important tool that will contribute to the rebuilding of passenger confidence in air travel.”
Over 300 airports worldwide include the COVID-19 safety guidelines. Apple Maps have teamed up with the Airports Council International that provides all requisite data for being marked on the app. What is the kind of information that you will attain from the Maps? You will get to know about the protocols, safety measures that are being undertaken at the Airport.
The information will comprise factors like the COVID-19 testing, usage of masks, procedures of screening, any quarantine measures that are being followed. The intent behind this update is to make traveling more informative and informed. After the vaccine programs are being conducted, it seems more viable to make an informed travel choice.
However, this is not the first COVID-19 related update that Apple Maps has added. During the beginning of March itself, Apple Maps also included the COVID-19 vaccination locations in the U.S. To make the proposition of vaccination location be found easily, the search is also possible through text or with Siri as well. Last year as well, Apple Maps was inclusive of the information about COVID-19 testing sites.
If you are wondering how you can access the COVID-19 measures related to Airports, this is how it will be done. The guidance can be accessed on the Map. As and when you are searching for an Airport and identify it on the Map, the ‘Directions’ button should be clicked. The listing of the Airport would also be comprised of a link to the travel guidance launched specifically by the Airport.
So far, there are 300 airports the information of which can be extracted. The information retrieval will highly depend upon whether or not the concerned airport is participating in the ACI’s Health Measures portal.
This turns out to be a great initiative by Apple Maps as traveling does include its share of apprehensions with the COVID-19 cases on a rise throughout the world. Hopefully, travelers would garner support from this new update to the Maps.
